Scotland An Oil Power?
The Scotsman - Can oil and gas fuel an independent Scotland's economy?
There is a debate about whether Scotland should become an independent country.
Here is another link with a different aspect of the story.

Look at the present roster of the United Nations. Scotland becoming independent tomorrow would put this ancient and honorable land ahead of almost all of the present members in most categories of a defined nation, not the least being the rule of law.
With Britain in such a sorry state (read Londonistan by Melanie Phillips),Scotland bailing out of the UK may be an astute move.
007 drinking Scotch may take a while to get used to.
I remember visiting Glasgow in the 1980's for the first time and could not believe the anti-Brit atmosphere that permeated the newspapers and radio at that time. If Scotland leaves, is Wales next?

I've read before that Ireland could get something like 50% of its electricity from wind power. Scotland was some similar figure.
Apparently the North Sea is the perfect place for a wind farm: flat and the wind always blowing in the same direction.
Alas, no good wind power stock. GE has an interesting alt-energy business buried inside it. If they spun it out I'd buy it the day they did so.
I am aware of, but have not studied, two wind companies that might be pure plays--you can check for yourself.
Gamesa in Spain and Vestas in Denmark. Both should be tradeable in the US. I do not know if either one has exposure to Scotland.
Again I have not studied these at all.
Iberdrola just bought Scottish Power (SPI) for what it's worth.
