Add Peru To The List

The Central Bank in Peru voted yesterday to maintain it's overnight rate at 4.5%. Peru? Turns out their inflation rate is below 2%.

The list of countries with rates lower than the US is very interesting to me. I would advise anyone to learn this stuff and be aware of global interest rates and actions of the various central banks. Every central bank I have ever looked for has a web site and you can find a link to an English version.

If you buy into future increased globalization, regardless of the impact you expect it to have on the US, this type of information will become more important to your portfolio.

I would like to invest a segment of holdings in the utility sector for growth and income purposes. I own some Duke, but I would like to invest in a second company or perhaps a utility etf. I was curious if you have a best in breed candidate in this area. Thanks ron

I have been trying to learn more in this area and (not surprisingly) have come to view the press reports with a bit of a jaundiced eye.

The WSJ (Sat edition)noticed that the US$ was showing strength. They mostly commented on its relative strength versus the Japanese Yen. Well my limited learning has made me aware that the Yen is one of the loosest currencies out there at the moment with a huge carry trade going on at the moment from the yen to the dollar (short yen, long dollar).

Another blog I look at has mentioned a fund that allows you to participate in this carry trade. They do not recommend this practice viewing it as highly risky.
