Real Fire
We had a real fire yesterday here in Walker. It was big enough that it made the news down in Phoenix. One news report had it at 35 acres and a reader emailed to say it was 45, I'm not really sure.
I was there from 1pm to 6pm. It was the Forest Service's jurisdiction from the start so we had a small role which is fine with me. Relative to forest fires it was burning very hot and was very smoky. We had a lot of air support which saved it from getting out of control. The area burned is was around the trailhead where we do most of our hiking.
European markets are all up nicely and the US market is going to open higher on the jobs data. If today's lift holds, the thing that I think becomes important is whether the S&P 500 can break above 1325, the recent high. For now this move is playing into a scenario laid out by a lot of bears. A decline, then a move up that fails to go above the recent high and then a lower low. Obviously I don't know what will happen but for now this move may not mean much in determining the next few weeks.

Roger, is your firm a fee-only RIA? I've read those are the best to do business with.
we are a fee only RIA. Obviously I am biased.
The main focus of this site is to help do-it-yourselfers.
Perhaps "unbiased" is more correct - :-)

Did you take out your new truck?
Fred
we were being called in as a handcrew, meaning we would be digging fire line as opposed to an engine crew to squirt water. That being the case we left the new truck in the barn and took an old one.
Regarding the Green Fire - how close did it get to homes? And is it fully contained today?
I guess Prescott got lucky yesterday but not Sedona which lost a few homes.
Looks like the real start of FIRE SEASON for Prescott. Pray for rain but not too much lightning.

Ed,
The realistic probability of a flare up now is very remote. The forest service crews are now mopping up which entails days of watering down, stirring the black with a shovel and cold trailing (testing with the back of your hand for heat).
No homes were lost. I'm not sure how close it got to the homes on Smith Ravine rd but those were the only homes potentially threatened.
You are right that the one in Sedona was much worse.
The state currently has crews in from all over the west because this is the worst of our season. We had crews from California and Nevada at the Green fire.
Thanks Ed!
